How to print checks at home
Checks2Print’s free check printer helps you prepare payment details locally. This guide explains how to choose your paper and get a clean print. Use the free online check printer when you’re ready.
Choose plain paper or check stock
Plain paper prints the complete layout with a light decorative pattern. That pattern is not a security feature. Blank security check stock provides its own paper design, so select Check stock paper to omit the decorative background and outer border.
If your stock already includes your payor information, bank details, MICR line, and signature line, select the payment-details-only checkbox to avoid printing those items twice. The template is designed for an 8 × 3.5 inch check at the top of US Letter paper; other stock layouts need separate alignment.
Set printer scale and test check alignment
Choose US Letter paper, portrait orientation, and 100% scale. Disable fit-to-page scaling and browser headers and footers. Print an alignment test on ordinary paper before using check stock. Adjust the horizontal and vertical offsets if your printer shifts the layout.
The bottom MICR band must remain clear and properly aligned. Ask your bank about its paper, MICR ink, and printer requirements before issuing a payment. This tool does not certify bank acceptance.
Review, sign, and record your printed check
Compare the routing and account numbers with your bank records, then check the recipient, amount, date, and check number. Sign the printed check by hand. Record it in your check register and keep track of printed copies to avoid duplicate payments.
If you save a PDF, store it securely and remove copies you no longer need. A PDF or printer queue can retain account information even though the check form itself does not save entries.
